Look where the water line comes in: basement wall, crawlspace, utility closet or near the water heater. Make sure it turns. In a leak, it is the first thing to reach for.
Watch what goes down the kitchen drain
Grease, coffee grounds and food scraps build up in kitchen drains over time. Wipe greasy pans into the trash before you wash them.
Note your water heater’s age
The date is usually printed on the label or coded in the serial number. If it is more than about 10 years old, keep an eye on the base for water.
